Dream job: Columbia hiring ‘Directors Of Toughness’

Shopprice New Zealand

The sportswear company is looking for two new recruits to put its performance gear to the test.

The position, which is a real position with Columbia, is a full-time beta tester, brand ambassador and social media guru.

The Director of Toughness works to ensure that Columbia apparel and gear live up to its expectations of keeping people warm, dry, cool and protected in any weather or geographic situation.

You know what that means? Adventures in the outdoors!

The company’s first Directors of Toughness, Lauren Steele and Zach Doleac, were selected from thousands of applicants and spent six months travelling the globe.

“The Directors of Toughness have become integral employees, not only testing our products but also sharing compelling stories,” said Columbia Sportswear Company’s Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer Richelle Luther. “We are excited to identify and hire two new outdoor enthusiasts, and to put a spotlight on the effort our employees go through to ensure our products keep people comfortable, regardless of the conditions.”

Columbia’s new Directors of Toughness will have a job duration of nine months, up from six months, and will have a full-time salary and benefits.

Sounds pretty epic to us but this is not your run-of-the-mill job, so of course getting it won’t be a walk in the park.

To stand out from the thousands of expected applicants, those eligible for employment in the U.S., Canada, and U.K. must register to interview online at Columbia.com/ToughJob then prove their “toughness” by making it to one of four remote locations for “The Toughest Interview (To Get To).”

Oh, also, to submit your registration you have to check a box that says: “I acknowledge that by clicking SUBMIT I will be present at the interview location at the date and time required, and that if hired, I can drop everything, go wherever Columbia asks and be a full-time Director of Toughness from November 15, 2016, to August 15, 2017.”
